Understanding What Your Metrics are Telling You

Today we talked with Robert J. Moore from RJMetrics on what key metrics all businesses should be monitoring.  We also had in-studio Nancy Oram from StaysOnEyewear and Mike Keith from The Office Coffee Shop in Royal Oak, MI.

Data is all around you and the small business owner needs to read and react to the data the same way the mega-corporations do.  Your bank statement is a form of data, google analytics will tell you everything you need to know about how your website is performing, your customers provide the most valuable data.

Some data sounds technical but is actually very easy to get.  Do you know what your Net Promoter Score is? Are you running an AB Test with your website?  Robert explains what these metrics are and how easy it is to gather.

Our in-studio guests, Nancy Oram and Mike Keith, share how their ideas became reality.  Nancy found a problem and invented the solution and got it to market.  Her StayOnEyewear, which are sunglasses and headband in-one, are innovative and fashionable.  Hear how she avoided the naysayers and got her idea to market and being sold in 25 major retailers.

Maybe you work from a home office and need a place to meet clients.  Maybe the office you are in is too small to hold your next meeting or maybe you just need a place to go to where you can be left alone.  The Office Coffee Shop offers exactly that.  Mike is following his dream of being an entrepreneur while providing a business that fills a demand.

Nancy Oram

This Birmingham resident has secured a global licensing agreement for her latest invention: sunglasses and reading glasses that stay on, like a headband, when they’re flipped up onto a wearer’s head.

She calls the product StaysOnEyewear, and through her Nancy Oram Design LLC she has learned all about making an idea into a reality in designing, prototyping, manufacturing and selling her invention.

The glasses sell for $19.99 online and in about 25 retail stores nationwide; a wider retail launch is planned for this summer.  Nancy did this while working in purchasing at Ford Motor and is still working there today.
