CEO Jonathan Holtzman is the Chairman of the Board of Village Green. He has an extensive background and significant expertise in luxury apartment development, construction, management and ownership throughout the Midwest. He is the third generation of a family business founded by his grandfather, Joseph Holtzman, who started the company in 1919 as Joseph Holtzman Homes. From its founding in 1919 through 1993, the companies were known as Holtzman & Silverman and Village Green Management Company which built over 25,000 for sale homes and developed and purchased over 15,000 apartments. Village Green now owns and/or manages 40,000 apartments valued at over $4.5 billion and employs 1,250 professional associates.
Jonathan joined the company in 1978, and through the mid-1980’s contributed modern marketing and business expertise to the growth of the apartment business. The company expanded from ownership of 2,500 apartments in Michigan to ownership and/or management of 10,000 apartments throughout the Midwest with institutional clients and high net worth individuals. As Co-Chairman in the 1980’s, 1990’s and 2000’s for Holtzman & Silverman, he was instrumental in developing and acquiring an additional 15,000 apartments. Today, the company has $500 million of luxury urban apartments under construction, acquisition and development throughout the Midwest and Mid Atlantic.
Village Green established four distinct apartment brands (Village Green, Village Park, Regents Park and City Apartments), which include urban, suburban/urban, suburban, garden, mid-rise, high-rise and the adaptive reuse of historic buildings. In 2011 Village Green bought out its 50% operating partners and then partnered with Compatriot Capital, a division of Sammons, one of the largest private companies in the United States. Village Green consists of five operating companies: Village Green Management, Village Green Development, Village Green Construction, Village Green Communications and V-Suites furnished rentals. The company offices are in Baltimore/Washington DC, Chicago, Cincinnati, Detroit, Dallas, Minneapolis, St. Louis and Toronto.
Village Green has won over 90 awards including the CEL National Multifamily Customer Service Award for Excellence for six consecutive years (2009-2014), and a NAHB Property Management Company of the Year Finalist for five consecutive years (2010-2014). In 2014 the company also received two NAHB Best in American Living Awards, two DMAA awards, three PMAM awards, St. Louis Property Management Company of the Year and The Spirit of Detroit Award for two redevelopments contributing to the city’s urban revitalization.
