We caught up with business owner and entrepreneur Sheila Hare and asked her to answer some questions and share some words of advice and inspiration with our StartupNation audience.

StartupNation: What is your favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur?
Sheila: The creative process of developing new strategies, and setting high goals.
StartupNation: To what do you attribute your success as an entrepreneur and business owner?
Sheila: Our Artists. They are Amazing. The Art sells itself.
StartupNation: What ignited the spark in you to start/select your particular business as an entrepreneur?
Sheila: We want to support Native American Artists, so much of their work is being copied in the Pacific Rim and Asia. Our Proud Native American artists deserve to be honored, and their culture continued through this work.
StartupNation: What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
Sheila:

Words of Wisdom – Inspiration for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
StartupNation: If you had one piece of advice for someone just starting out, what would it be?
Sheila: GET BUSY! The more you sell, the more you learn. Don’t wait to get started.

StartupNation: Where do you find your greatest inspiration?
Sheila: The rolling High Desert of the Southwest. The Navajo Ceremonial Dances. High Red pueblos and Old Navajo Rug Weavers.
StartupNation: What is your favorite motivational/business quote as an entrepreneur?
Sheila: “Where the Wild West meets Old Hollywood Glamour”

Sheila: Whenever you see a successful business, someone once made a courageous decision.

StartupNation: How did you get funding for your startup?
Sheila: PayPal, Working Capital
StartupNation: Recommendations for others starting out?
Sheila: Start with what you have lying around the house. Then narrow it down into a specific genre you are interested in.
Marketing and Building Their Customer Base
StartupNation: How do you market and build your customer base?
Sheila: Facebook. eBay Auctions. Mail Chimp Emails.
StartupNation: Recommendations for others starting out?
Sheila: Always have integrity. Customers feel vulnerable buying online, make them feel safe with consistent service and fast deliveries.
Changes in the Business Market
StartupNation: What changes have you seen in your business market since starting?
Sheila: When the Economy crashed in 2009, so did our auctions. We got slaughtered on ebay auctions. We had to completely change the game and started offering the “Best Offer” option instead. Sales were slower, but more profitable by that method, and soon began to grow again.
StartupNation: What do you see coming that will impact your business?
Sheila: Custom made jewelry, that we have commissioned by our artists.
StartupNation: Have a funny story about a client or business transaction that you want to share along with a key lesson learned?
Sheila: Once a man asked me to GIVE HIM my entire collection of jewelry. He had NO CLUE that I was a single Mom trying to support three small children, WHILE supporting the entire Navajo Nation of Artists and Silversmiths.
