Good morning, Paul!

It’s a job seekers’ market today. Those looking for jobs have more leverage than ever in the criteria for what they’re seeking in a job has changed as well in this post-pandemic era. So for companies looking to hire the best talent and fill critical positions at their companies, you better know the nuances about what job seekers are seeking today.

We caught up with our good friend Ryan Landau at Purpose Jobs. They’re in the business of connecting top talent with companies looking to fill those top talent openings. Ryan, let’s get right to it. Tell us beyond salary and benefits and other fundamentals, what should employers know about what job seekers are expecting today when they consider a new job opportunity?

Ryan Landau: “We survey our job seekers a lot. One of the main values that we heard from our job seekers of what they are looking for in their next company is this word of stability. Because during the pandemic, during that 24-month period, so many people got laid off. There was so much uncertainty and so they value am I going to a company that is stable, am I going to a company that is making money? Am I working for a company that has good leadership.”

And beyond stability, I know that a given company’s values and mission, and whether those values are consistent with the job, applicants have become a major factor as well, Ryan. Employees want to work for companies that have a purpose greater than simply making money. Tell us about what you’ve seen.

“Job seekers and want to work for a company that has a vision, mission, purpose that they align with. They want to work at a company that values work-life balance, and they also want to work at a company that values them being involved in their community and so does that mean an NGO? Does that mean getting involved in their local neighborhood? I think job seekers are looking for a more dynamic approach rather than just like, Hey, my job is my job and that’s it.”

Stability. Good leadership, common values, and a sense of purpose beyond simply making money. If you’re a company looking to hire the best talent, make sure you are prepared to address these issues when pitching your company to top talent.
