Tune in to the Business Beat, below, to learn more about the emerging tech startup market based in the Midwest:

“I think the tide is shifting to specifically the middle of the country and emerging markets… traditionally, companies have been building in San Francisco and in New York because those have been the mecca centers for building tech and startup companies. However, since COVID, companies have realized that there’s a big opportunity to build companies in other places.”

– Ryan Landau, Purpose Jobs

Landau will be back on the Business Beat on Wednesday, May 5 and Friday, May 7 to discuss two local startups that he believes are ones to watch!

Good morning, Paul.

This morning on the Business Beat, we’re going to be speaking with Ryan Landau of Purpose Jobs, who is heavily focused on the tech and entrepreneurial community here in the Midwest, with a specific passion for Detroit, given that his company, Purpose Jobs, is based right here.

Ryan, your company is in the business of connecting startups with top talent. Tell us about Purpose Jobs.

Jeff, thanks for having me today. Our focus is building the startup ecosystem in the Midwest, and what we’re trying to do is just make it more of an even playing field for opportunity to be distributed to all. And, we publish a weekly newsletter to about 40,000 people that highlights different Midwest news, it highlights people hiring and also amazing events.

Ryan, you’re a big believer in the shift of tech companies basing themselves in the Midwest versus on the coast, and there’s even some big companies like Spotify and Salesforce now seeking talent in the Midwest versus on the coast.

I think the tide is shifting to specifically the middle of the country and emerging markets. The reason is, traditionally, companies have been building in San Francisco and in New York because those have been the mecca centers for building tech and startup companies. However, since COVID, companies have realized that there’s a big opportunity to build companies in other places, and in addition, talent is relocating. People are thinking, ‘If I can work remotely, why would I be spending $4,000 a month in rent in San Francisco when I can move to Detroit or somewhere in the middle of the country and also build a beautiful company.’

Thanks, Ryan! So, if you’re a tech company based right here in the Midwest, you’re right where you should be.

Ryan will be with us again on Wednesday of this week and then again on Friday. We’ll be featuring two startups that he feels are ones to watch. He’s handpicked them.
