I could tell you that it’s because the kids have been back in school for a month or so and families are settling into a non-summer-vacation routine.

I could tell you that the first day of anything, and sundown today is also the Jewish New Year of Rosh Hashanah, is a great time to start something new.

I could tell you that the major league baseball season is winding down in the next week and October playoffs & World Series is just around the corner and … hmm, I’m not sure what my point is here – I just love talking about baseball whenever I can!

Anyway, the truth is that the perfect time to start anything, whether it’s a direct marketing campaign or your new fitness workout routine is … TODAY! And today just happens to be the first day of Autumn.

Let me put in a good word here for direct marketing though because that old-fashioned strategy tends to get pushed down the priority list with all the great resources that the internet provide. Direct marketing still works and works very well. You certainly need to do it right, and for small businesses you’re a whole lot better off to do narrowcasting to target your specific market niche.

But don’t let any of that keep you from doing it. And today is the day!

After all, it’s the first day of Autumn for gosh-sakes!
