Are you a StartupNation PR Success Story?

In order to see how PR can truly help your new business succeed, I’ll be sharing some stories from our own StartupNation members.

To start, have you met Janie Honeycutt of www.houseofjerky.net? Janie is an avid StartupNation member. She used the site to get valuable informatio to help boost sales for her beef jerky business.

I recently got the chance to interview Janie about her PR efforts, and here is what she had to say:

Tell us a little about your business.

At www.houseofjerky.net which I started in 2002, we sell high-quality jerky products including beef, buffalo, venison, ostrich, and turkey jerky in a variety of flavors.

Our products are unique because they are natural. There are no preservatives, artificial colors, nitrates, MSG or flavor enhancers so you can taste the natural meat flavor.

As a business owner who cares about our customers, I provide personal service and interact with them regularly. And our customers are happy so our entire business is growing and going very well.

What kind of publicity have you had so far?

Our owner-operated stores have had newspaper and magazine write-ups. www.houseofjerky.net has been featured in People Magazine, Maxim Magazine, Traverse Magazine, and Real Simple Magazine.

Our product has been reviewed and written about on several websites such as www.thehotzoneonline.com, www.Bestbeefjerky.org, www.Uncrate.com and www.Cowsaredelicious.com.

Today we use Haro, which I have found to be a valuable resource for us to find gift guides and gift bag opportunities. In fact, we were recently contacted by Hooters Magazine to be included in their holiday gift guide or reviews in the November/December issue!

How did you get your major publicity?

Amazingly, most of the magazines featured us without letting us know. Real Simple contacted us requesting samples for possible inclusion in their “Holiday Gift Guide.” I scrambled to put together the right material to send them.

Actually, you helped me out by telling me what needed to be in my fact sheet and Roland of www.vwebworld.com, put it together for me very quickly.

As far as the reviews, I have either contacted websites or they requested to review our product. I really attribute a lot of the publicity to our website because it’s easy to find. Also, I’ve been interviewed by Rich Sloan and he wrote an article about us!

In the meantime, if you have any public relations or copywriting questions, feel free to write to me at [email protected]. I also offer free tips and information on my site at www.rembrandtwrites.com.
